And there we have it, folks.

Okay, but as a writer myself, I can’t fault him for that. I know that I would never write my characters and stories in a way that doesn’t make me happy just to make other people happy. And I’m sure that only writers could understand that.

I’m only just working on my novel right now, but I know damn well the main person I am writing for is myself. If you think that would make me a selfish writer or a bitch, oh well. I’ll be that.

I also fancy myself a writer, and on the surface I agree with you…to a point. Were this his own set of pre-existing characters - like Buffy or Firefly- I would be wholeheartedly behind you. If this were his project with all-new characters to create from scratch, then I would be waving the “stfu” flag right behind you.

But they’re not his characters. They’re not new. These characters that he’s retconning with no thought to what anyone thinks are decades old, with long, well-established histories, relationships, storylines and character points.

We’re going to focus on Natasha Romanov because she is the point of my personal angst.

At no point, to my knowledge, has Natasha Romanov played “Belle” in someone’s Beauty and the Beast in any way, shape, form or fashion. The idea of making her fall for the beast who left her cowering is fucking insulting.

Natalia Alianova Romanova is not a Disney princess in a catsuit.

However.

Joss Whedon wanted a Disney princess in a catsuit, he didn’t care what anyone else thought or wanted, and that’s what he wrote.

And for that reason, I respectfully disagree with you - in the case of Mr. Whedon.
